Artist Saku

Joyce Saku Charlton started her life in Japan and travelled across the United States living the life of a military dependent. She settled on Oahu as her home in the 1990s.

Saku shared her name with her mother who was supportive of her artistic interests throughout her childhood.

In honor of her mother, who has since passed, she uses her middle name (her mother’s first) in her creative endeavors. The name “Saku” also translates to mean “to bloom”. As a late-bloomer after half a century, she still experiments with various art mediums in hopes of cultivating her garden with creative blossoms to bring enjoyment for herself and to share with others.

Saku’s interest in oils were fueled by the “fiery Savet women” who encouraged her to foster the talents her mother supported and to have her venture out through other trails.

Saku is currently enjoying her colorful journey.
